Maybe you’ve asked yourself: "Why did this happen to me and not to others?"
It’s easier to look at a misfortune as a total defeat, but we can still take something good out of it. We must see through that so-called defeat and rise above it. Because if we don’t rise above it, misfortune will rise above us and follow us like a gray cloud.
“Life is thickly sown with thorns, and I know no other remedy than to pass quickly through them. The longer we dwell on our misfortunes, the greater is their power to harm us.” - Voltaire
One misfortune can alter our lives, but it shouldn’t dictate how we live them. We shouldn’t dwell on it.
We only need to accept it and embrace it because, after all, we are the sum of everything that has happened to us; we’re the sum of everything that we’ve done, good and bad, so misfortune is part of us.
“Opportunity...it often comes disguised in the form of misfortune or temporary defeat.” - Napoleon Hill
We may even get something great out of a bad event. Maybe we can’t see it right away, but some years in the future we may look back at a difficult situation and realize that if it hadn’t happened, we wouldn’t have been able to accomplish a certain thing.
Misfortune, after all, should be looked at as a stepping stone. During our lifetime, we must keep climbing. Sometimes it’s going to be very difficult; the steps are going to be unsafe, but we have to keep walking.
“Whatever sadness or misfortune happened in my life, the solution I always found was to go on living.” - Marty Rubin
Sometimes, we will have no power over an event, but we shouldn’t give that chance even to hold power over us, and we can do that by self-talk. Our self-talk may help us to get back up and keep going, or it can pull us down.
Conclusion
We should look at misfortunes as stepping stones that we need to overcome. Sometimes it will look like a big obstacle, but it’s not an obstacle that will force us to stop or to find another way. It is one that we need to climb and to go above.
The path in our lives is not smooth and we should be thankful that it isn’t. Because if it wasn't, we wouldn’t be able to grow.
Cheers!
